Keeping it in the family

May 29th, 2021
The Island’s new women’s singles pétanque champion is Cassie Stewart – and she was keeping up a proud family tradition. Her mother Jean had was the reigning champion and, as fate would have it, mother and daughter met in the semi-final of this year’s competition. After a ding-dong affair Cassie edged out her mother 13-11.
Cassie then went on to meet Joy Hart in the final. Joy had won the title two year previously and was runner-up last year to Cassie’s mother. This year’s final was finely poised at 9 – 9 before Cassie took a maximum three points in the next end to go 12 – 9 up.  Joy’s last boule on the next end looked to have saved the match but Cassie managed to fire out the holding boule to win her first ever Women’s Singles Title.
Joy Hart reached the final after a 13-6 victory against Susan Le Gresley. In the play-off for third place Jean Stewart had the consolation of picking up the bronze medal after a 13-6 win against over Susan Le Gresley. The competition was hosted by the Liberation Pétanque Club at the Weighbridge and dozen players took part
