At the first time of asking, the brand new pairing of Mark Nicol and Paul Bell won the Liberation Pétanque Club Open Doubles. 16 doubles teams taking part.

They were the only team to emerge from the qualifying round with an unbeaten record and cruised through the quarter-finals and semi-finals before facing Laurent Pellaton and Geoffroy Buffetrille in the final (and their only loss up to that point was at the hands of Nicol and Bell).

The eventual winners went 8-nil up in the final before conceding four points when Pellaton took out the coche with four boules in hand, but it was never going to be enough with Bell pointing well consistently and Nicol’s firing on top form.

The third place play-off final was a much closer match being tied at 12-all before a sudden death final end. It was the Carrefour pairing of Alan Lahiffe and Mat Scholefield that eventually took the honours against Liberation’s Matt Buesnel and Toby Northern.
