The annual JPA Doubles Championships took place at the home of Liberation Petanque Club on Saturday (28th May).
In Group A Neil Selby and Chris Pinel emerged as group winners with a score of 4 wins +23 just pipping the no. 3 seeds Chris and Jake Romeril who finished in the runner up spot with a score of 4 wins +20.
In Group B 2015 champions (and no. 1 seeds) Toby Northern and Matthew Pinel also won four out their five games to top the group with a score of +45. The one game that they did lose was a 13-12 defeat to Steve Foster and Derek Hart who with an overall score of 4 wins +21 also secured a semi-final spot by virtue of being the best runners-up.
Group C was won by no. 2 seeds, Andrew Bellamy and Callum Stewart who were the only team in the competition to emerge from the groups undefeated with a score of 5 wins +50.
In the semi-finals Northern and M Pinel cruised to a 13-4 victory against Selby and C Pinel whilst Bellamy and Stewart won their match against Foster and Hart 13-8.
In the final, Northern's classy pointing and Pinel's pinpoint firing proved too much for Bellamy and Stewart who were unable to prevent the holders from retaining their title. As Northern also won the title in 2014 with Ross Payne, he becomes the first person in JPA history to be crowned as Doubles Champion for three years running.
