SATURDAY 30th April & SUNDAY 1st May
With a Welcome and Briefing Meeting on the evening of
Friday 29th April

In addition

The Jersey Petanque Club and The Carrefour Petanque Club are once again both holding Open competitions over the first Bank Holiday weekend in May with each club hosting and managing its own competition on its own terrain. This will make for a full weekend of first class petanque.

The timetable and format will be the same as last year. In 2015 we introduced a new format with the competition running over two days and thus doing away with the Sunday melee. At the time a great number of competitors told us how much they enjoyed the new format culminating with a finals that everyone could watch. We did however check whether competitors had any further thoughts and a questionnaire was sent to all competitors in the summer.

The result was a very strong endorsement for continuing with the 2015 format. The main grumble was that the weather was not continuous sunshine-we are working hard to fix that.

Friday April 29th
In the evening a vin d’ honour will be held at Jersey Petanque Club (JPC) where, over a glass of wine and a light bite we can meet and go through the weekend’s programme followed by the draw. A chance to renew old friendships and meet new competitors. We will start at about 6.00pm with refreshments and the briefing at 6.30pm.Thiis should enable everyone to get away in time for dinner.

Saturday April 30th
Play will start at 9.15 am on Saturday (and 9.30am on Sunday). The competition will be “a Snake” and during the day each team will play 6 other teams.
Refreshments will be on sale throughout the day but we do not have a licence to sell alcohol but you are welcome to bring your own
At the end of the day we will collate the results into the 4 groups. The top quarter to the Main, the second to the Plate, the third to Consollage 1 and those who have not had the best of days to Consollage 2.

Sunday May 1st

With a 9.30am start each team will play 3 games within their group and the top 4 teams will then go on to play for first, second, and equal third. Played in this way it does mean all the eliminated teams will be able to watch the finals and we hope play will finish by 5 o’clock.  This will be followed by the presentations and celebrated with a glass and some nibbles.
Refreshments will again be on sale throughout the day but again remember we do not have a licence to sell alcohol.

Monday May 2nd
Play moves to Carrefour Petanque Club (CPC).

We believe this will be three days of enjoyable petanque with 2 formats and 2 terrains.

As always we will be very happy to talk over the phone or respond by email to any queries you may have and in addition we have listed below some queries that crop up regularly (with the answers!) and hope this will help you plan your weekend.

Getting to Jersey and finding Accommodation
There are frequent flights from many UK airports to Jersey with a fast car ferry from Poole and a traditional ferry from Portsmouth. The island has an excellent range of hotels and guesthouses.
To make life easier we have made contact with a local travel agent-The C.I. Travel Group who has again come up with very attractive travel and accommodation packages. They will be more than happy to help you with a package or only the travel or accommodation element. Please contact quoting “Petanque”.

 Getting to the venue
The JPC terrains are easily found. They are sited behind the Le Quennevais Sports Centre(post code JE3 8LZ sited just off La Route de Quennevais in St Brelade

At JPC we will have a range of hot and cold drinks, crisps, chocolates etc as well as soup, sandwiches or rolls and a massive selection of homemade cakes.

There is no official dinner but Jersey boasts a very wide range of excellent eateries.

Where do we find an entry form and do we need to contact you for more forms if we need them?

6.  Do we need a licence?
No licences are required to enter our competitions and play is governed by ‘The Official Rules of the Game of Petanque’.  The rulings of the ‘Disputes Committee’  are  final and enforced within five minutes.  An official interpreter will be involved should the dispute involve a foreign team.  A nominated First Aider will be present during the competitions.

If we arrive early what else is there to do?
Jersey is only a small island but there is so much to do – exploring beaches, cliffs and country lanes as well as VAT free shopping. You can contact Visit Jersey on or 01534 448877 for further information
The JPC meets on Wednesday at 2.00 pm and we will be only too pleased to see you there.

What Next?
Stan Boschat has agreed to once again co-ordinate the entries... His contact e-mail address and telephone number is on the  entry form and he will be more than happy to help in any way he can should you have any queries. (Should the phone be answered by Stan’s wife – Jacquey - she is also one of our members)
Your entry will be acknowledged and any queries you have made on the entry form answered.
Naturally should there be any changes to times etc etc we will immediately let you know.

We trust that you have enough information to see that we have put together what we believe will be a very good weekend of Petanque. And we very much hope you will join us.
